Si Ferry Meets...Barry Ferguson Episode 1 - Rangers Education, Breaking into 1st Team, Captaincy

In the first instalment of our Barry Ferguson series, we sit down with one of Rangers' most decorated players to talk through what has been a rollercoaster career.

Barry talks Si through his early days at the club and how a tough but fair education from the likes of John Brown, Gazza and Laudrup influenced his strong mentality when going on to play for the Rangers first team.

He also discusses the big moments that occurred during a period which saw him become one of the top players in the country and handed the captaincy as a young man in a dressing room full of experienced internationals.

In our first of five instalments with one of Scottish Football's most lethal strikers, Scott chats with Simon on his footballing upbringing in Australia which saw him catch the bug of Celtic early on through his Scottish family lineage.

He delves into first moving over to the UK and winning a contract with Southampton where he would play with the likes of Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier and eventually be managed and let go by his future Celtic manager Gordon Strachan.

This departure then leads to his move to Motherwell, where the boys have a laugh about the colourful characters that he shared a dressing room with and the chaotic culture that was present under manager Terry Butcher at the time.

In our final instalment, Kris talks to Si about his return to Scotland following his time abroad and how he felt disillusioned with the game until his 2nd spell with Kilmarnock reignited his passion again.

He also goes on to discuss his return to Rangers during a controversial period for the club which saw them fail to achieve promotion from the Scottish Championship. A 'Disaster' by all accounts according to Boyd.

Kris talks about his bizarre experiences in Turkey following his move to Eskişehirspor with incidents ranging from his Manager ending up in jail, football corruption and men in black suits turning up to training looking for him!

He also discusses his mixed experience on the playing side after he moved to Portland Timbers but raves about the set up of the MLS as he predicts a big future for the league in the coming years.

The lads open Episode 3 discussing the motives behind Kris finally calling it a day with Rangers after his first spell with the club.

Si raises the subject of Scotland and why the striker chose to retire under George Burley with the reasons not necessarily related to the public perception of the decision.

The chat also takes a slight tonal shift as Kris opens up about the difficulties footballers can sometimes experience when moving clubs which he could relate to following his ill fated move to Middlesbrough.

Kris takes time however to give his analysis on what went wrong for Gordon Strachan at Boro and also talks about his positive experience playing for Nottingham Forest on loan under Manager Billy Davies.

In our 2nd instalment with Kris Boyd, the striker outlines his thoughts on why Paul Le Guen really stripped Barry Ferguson of the Rangers captaincy prior to his exit from Ibrox.

He discusses the dramatic change in form and culture Walter Smith had on the club which led to their many successes under the Manager with Kris' role as domestic goalscorer being emphasised by the gaffer.

Kris also pays a poignant tribute to Fernando Ricksen as well as expressing his pride on breaking the all time SPL goal record ahead of Henrik Larsson.

Kicking off our new series with the SPL’s record goal-scorer, Kris sits down with Si and talks about his tough football upbringing involving constantly testing himself against older and more physically intimidating players to ensure he could progress as quickly as possible.

He discusses his first spell with Kilmarnock and who the biggest influencers were at the club which led to his goal-scoring grabbing the attention of clubs down South as well as his boyhood heroes Rangers.

Kris also talks Simon through his early days at Ibrox along with the warning signs that were apparent when Frenchman Paul Le Guen took over from the man that signed him, Alex McLeish.
